People always ask us what we need at the shelter. As I am sure you can imagine, housing 55 clients, comprising of men, women and children is not always an easy task. Shelter staff and volunteers are people who have an interest for helping those in need, so the labor and administrative part is something they are more than willing to do. The costs are high, so financial contributions are always welcomed and appreciated. These financial contributions can help us with the high bills associated with providing for all of our client’s needs during their stay.
Even the smallest donations can make a big difference so don’t be shy to donate what you are comfortable with. We also can always use things like paper towels, toilet paper, bleach, 30+ gallon trash bags, and other cleaning products/essentials.
We appreciate all donations of gently used items. We would like to kindly ask that the community does not donate broken furniture, toys or clothing with holes and stains. As far as donations, they go to our clients first, some help the homeless who are temporarily living on the street, and other items go to for sale to help us to pay expenses to keep the shelter running. It is a big task, but with your help we can work to first keep up with our high expenses and then to eventually move on to a larger location so that we can serve more.
Last but certainly not least, we are in need of a good running 15-passenger van to transport our clients to job interviews, work, or other important appointments. We would also be able to use this van to pick up those who need shelter and have no transportation. If you have one to donate, please consider HDHS. If you know where we can purchase one at a very low price also, please let us know. We are working hard to raise enough money to make this purchase to better serve our clients and our community.
